I was in Dublin, Ireland on Sept. 11, 2001. I was leaving work, it was about 2:00 pm, when my boyfriend called me on my cell phone and told me that terrorists had crashed two planes into the Twin Towers and a plane into the Pentagon. I did not believe him. He insisted.

I couldn’t reach my parents in Manhattan because the phone lines were all tied up, but I thought they were probably all right because they had no reason to be down near the World Trade Center. When I reached my mother, I asked her if everybody was ok.

She said, “We are, but a lot of people are not,” and then she and I cried.

My mother told me that the mayor had told everybody to get out, go about their business, go shopping.

My mother told me that she had done what he said, she’d gone out and gone shopping. She said she had seen a lot of elderly people, with walkers and canes, out shopping while she was out. She said one old woman was wearing a t-shirt that said “I Love New York.”

I was on a back road in Oxford, CT and heard it on the radio. I also didn’t believe it but every radio station was saying the same thing. I went back to the company’s office and watched on TV as both towers collapsed. I did not write a tribute but instead am posting links to sites that I regularly visit so that people can go there. Your site is included.
