Tea Party Petitions. Sample Letter to Kellogg’s: Stop Advertising on Letterman. Cynthia Yockey has “Fire David Letterman Kit.”
Cynthia Yockey, who I’m obviously a big fan of, has a downloadable “Fire David Letterman Kit” with all the pertinent names and addresses that you can bring to your tea party.
Cynthia also has a sample petition letter:
On June 8 and 9 David Letterman deliberately attacked the teen-age daughters of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with the intention of destroying her through her children. His remarks were not funny. They were cruel, demeaning and sexist and they hurt all women. By attacking Gov. Palin’s children, Mr. Letterman served notice that he will use his platform to hurt the children of people he disagrees with in order to destroy them and shut them up. With his sneering and insincere sham apologies, Mr. Letterman used the excuse of comedy as a shield. This must not stand. Mr. Letterman must be fired for attacking children and for his sexism. We call on all of Mr. Letterman’s sponsors to stop advertising on his show and we serve notice we will stop buying their products until they do. We call on CBS to fire David Letterman now.
This is my petition letter to Kellogg’s that I’m bringing to tea parties tomorrow. This is not just about Sarah Palin, this is about the Republican party.
Dear Kellogg Company Representative:
We the undersigned consumers of your products demand that you stop advertising on the David Letterman Show. We are outraged by Letterman’s remarks targeting Governor Sarah Palin’s children, and we are angered by his comments disparaging the governor, and all working women.
Letterman has used his show to call the governor of Alaska “the flight attendant,” “the waitress at the coffee shop, “the dip sample lady at Safeway,” “the nurse who weighs you,” “the Olive Garden hostess, “the infomercial lady,” “the lady at the bakery,” “the real estate lady,” “the lady who has a chain of cupcake stores.” Letterman’s clear message is that Sarah Palin’s place is not leading or governing because to him she resembles the working women of America for whom he has strong contempt.
Kellogg’s, the working women Letterman despises are the people who buy your products.
On June 8, 2009, Letterman escalated his rhetoric, targeting the governor’s teenager daughters. In his monologue that night, Letterman remarked that while the governor attended a Yankees game, on her visit to New York City to do volunteer work for the disabled, 14 year-old Willow Palin (or her 18-year old sister Bristol as Letterman later unconvincingly claimed) was “knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.”
In the ensuing outrage, Embassy Suites and Hellman’s pulled their advertising from the Letterman show. We thank them.
Kellogg’s silence on this matter and continued advertising on the Letterman Show has shown us that Kellogg’s thinks smearing teenage girls with nasty sexual innuendo is just fine. Kinda makes those Pop-Tarts, Cheez-its, and Eggo waffles look not so appetizing. Kellogg’s, who do you think is buying your products? Who do you think is eating them?
We call on you to live up to the claim on your website that you “strive to make a difference in the community.” Put your money where your mouth is. Stop advertising on the Letterman Show.
Sincerely,
Undersigned Consumers of Kellogg’s Products
