KELLOGG’S “STRIVES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY.” IN WHAT COMMUNITY? BOYCOTT KELLOGG’S.

I am very unhappy that Kellogg’s continues to sponsor the Letterman Show after Letterman’s misogynistic, obscene, and vindictive remarks about 14 year-old Willow Palin, 18 year-old Bristol Palin, and Sarah Palin.
I really feel like it’s very contemptuous of Kellogg’s. Why should the money that I pay for your cookies and cereals be used to pay some comedian to trash young girls like my daughter and women like me?
It has come to the world’s attention that Kellogg’s is a sponsor of the Letterman Show, so you can’t get out of this one. We see your silence. You think it just doesn’t matter. You don’t care about your consumers.
I’m not buying Kellogg’s products anymore. My family can eat General Mills and other brands of cereal. You don’t respect me, I don’t respect you. I saw your “corporate responsibility” project on your web site, and I really think it’s just a bunch of meaningless pretense. You pretend like you stand for values, but you don’t.

Kellogg’s particularly annoys me because its chief products are cookies and cereals aimed at kids. Who do they think buys their products and for whom? Probably women a lot like the women that Kellogg’s pays Letterman to trash:
-the flight attendant
-the waitress at the coffee shop
-the “dip sample lady” at Safeway
-the nurse
-the Olive Garden hostess
-”the infomercial lady”
-”the lady at the bakery”
-the real estate lady
-”the lady who has a chain of cupcake stores”
Letterman is trashing working women. He’s also trashing a female governor- on the basis that she reminds him of everyday working women. HEY, SHE CAN’T LEAD. SHE CAN’T GOVERN. HER PLACE IS AS WAITRESS, NURSE, STEWARDESS. This guy is an old hack. Note his use of the word “lady” with every job description. “The real estate lady”? Uh, do you mean real estate agent? That’s like saying “lady doctor” or “lady attorney.” Hi, I’m Rosita the Prole, lady blogger. Yeah, sidesaddle is a bitch. Uh, where is Gloria Steinem? Where is the National Organization of Women? I guess it’s kind of like how all men are created equal, but some men are equal than others, like wise Latinas are more equal than white men. Some women are more equal than others too.
What if he had said Sonia Sotomayor reminds him of a waitress or the “dip sample lady” or the nurse who weighs you. Or that Malia Obama got knocked up by one of the Yankees as her parents took in a game.
Also, Kellogg’s really annoys me because it has these “Corporate Responsibility” pages: We strive to make a difference in the communities where we operate, and we assist organizations that address community economic and social development. That makes the whole thing with the remarks about 14 year-old Willow even worse, like “We strive to make a difference in the community, and 14 year-old white girls really don’t enter into that effort. Making references on national television to a 14 year-old girl being raped and impregnated by a 33 year-old 228 lb. man- and that’s supposed to be something we can all laugh about- is absolutely fine with us. We don’t even deign to remark on it. That’s got nothing to do with ’social development.’”
And I’ve realized my scenario with “Oh, I’m a busy mother, I can’t boycott Kellogg’s, it’s too all-encompassing” is wrong. I am boycotting Kellogg’s. I’ve boycotted Us Magazine since their Sarah Palin cover. I slipped a couple of times (for Jon and Kate), but I used to buy Us Magazine every week. That was like 10 months ago, so that’s like at least 40 copies of Us Magazine, that’s around $160.00. Multiply me by a few people and it adds up. In my boycotting Kellogg’s scenario, I had resisted an actual boycott because I thought what if I pull into a rest stop and I have to get my daughter a snack. Well, I can easily avoid getting my daughter a Kellogg’s product in that scenario. There’s no scenario where I would NEED to buy Kellogg’s.
Boycott Kellogg’s. Let them know we’re not going to take this anymore. They need to practice a little corporate responsibility in OUR direction, in the direction of the people who BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.
Here are the lists of Kellogg’s products.
